Design of the Wellington (NZ) Household Travel Survey
Project Description
As part of an overall project conducted by Sinclair Knight Merz for the Wellington Regional Council to update the existing EMME/2 based strategic transport model, a new Household Travel Survey was conducted for the Wellington region in 2002. The survey was conducted in 2000-3000 households, using a self-completion diary survey incorporating personal delivery and pickup of the survey forms. The survey used GIS-based geocoding of destinations, and incorporated a special memory-jogger diary for high-frequency tripmakers such as commercial vehicle drivers. The survey also used the Most-Recent-Trip technique to obtain information on public transport trips from most respondents (instead of only from that percentage of the population who use public transport on the survey day).
