North-Eastern Suburbs Travel Survey (NESTS)
The Cathedral Range from the TUTI office at Taggerty
Project Description

The Urban Transport Institute, in conjunction with I-view Pty Ltd, was appointed by the Victorian Department of Infrastructure to design and conduct the North-Eastern Suburbs Travel Survey.

The first stage of the NESTS survey was conducted in March 2004 in the municipality of Darebin in the inner north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The survey uses a self-completion questionnaire, which is hand-delivered and hand-collected from households across the region. The survey design shares many features with the South-East Queensland Travel Survey (SEQTS) and the Melbourne Area Travel Survey (MATS) also conducted by TUTI and I-view.

The second stage of NESTS was conducted in March 2005, to measure the extent to which travel patterns had changed over the 12 month period between the two surveys.
