External Cost Indicators for Transport
The Cathedral Range from the TUTI office at Taggerty
Project Description

As an input to the comprehensive evaluation of transport projects, a knowledge of the external costs of transport is required. This project, conducted for ARRB Transport Research, described the most recent collection of unit cost factors for environmental effects of transport in Europe for the reference year of 1995. These factors had been assembled over a number of years, integrating the scientific literature and the methodological state of the art for different cost domains in 17 European countries in a coherent and comparable way. In the absence of a national compendium of unit cost factors for Australia, and under the assumption that the average urban transport situation of the 17 European countries was similar to that for Australian urban areas, these figures may be used for the assessment and comparison of diferent policies and strategies in Australia.
